Pankaj’s father Anand Singh is the former chairman of a cooperative bank and leader of Ahlawat Khap and brother is a BJP leader. His father has rejected the police version and questioned the arrests. He also met police officers today and registered his protest, besides demanding a fair investigation.

Earlier, Amit Dahiya, DCP (Crime), said the police received information late at night that the ASI had sustained bullet injuries and was admitted to hospital.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that Pankaj and his friend were involved in a scuffle with some individuals at a hotel. The other party informed the police about the incident. The police also received information that Pankaj was carrying an illegal weapon. When the police intercepted him at Sampla bypass, he opened fire on the officers, injuring the ASI,” he said.

After the encounter, other police teams chased the accused, leading to a second encounter in the Beri area. The accused fired twice at the police, who returned the fire, injuring Pankaj. Two others were arrested from there.

“Two separate FIRs have been registered at City Jhajjar and Beri police stations,” said Dahiya.

Meanwhile, Anand Singh claimed that his son had a scuffle with some drunk individuals at a hotel over a minor issue, but he left the place peacefully. The same men later intercepted him on the road, he said.
