Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, on Wednesday organised a programme to raise awareness among students about democratic processes, with a focus on the concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’.
The event was held at the university auditorium under the joint banner of the Department of Law, the office of the Dean Student Welfare, CDLU Sirsa, and the District Election Office, Sirsa.
Dean Student Welfare Prof Rajkumar said the programme was organised under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijay Kumar to inform students about the concept, importance, benefits and role of ‘One Nation, One Election’ in India’s democratic system.
BJP leader Phanindra Nath Sharma attended the programme as the chief guest, while Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijay Kumar presided over the event.
Addressing the students, Sharma said ‘One Nation, One Election’ was an important step towards making India’s democracy stronger, more stable and more effective. He said frequent elections affected administrative work and slowed down development projects, while holding elections simultaneously would save time, resources and public money.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Vijay Kumar said academic discussion on issues such as ‘One Nation, One Election’ was the need of the hour.
