Barwala doctor accused in sex test case gets default bail; cops miss chargesheet deadline

A Barwala-based doctor, Dr Anant Ram, accused in a sex determination case, has been granted default bail after the police failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated time of 60 days.
The court of Natasha Sharma, Additional Sessions Judge, Fast Track Special Court, Hisar, initially took up his regular bail application on April 2 and sought a reply from the prosecution.
Subsequently, on April 15, after hearing arguments and considering the prosecution’s reply, the court allowed the plea for default bail.
Dr Anant Ram was detained red-handed in Hisar while allegedly conducting an illegal sex determination test at a private clinic in the Azad Nagar police station area. A team of the Health Department, led by Dr Anamika Bishnoi, had carried out the raid based on specific inputs. A case was registered under the relevant provisions of the PCPNDT Act, along with Sections 120-B and 34 of the IPC.
Dr Anant Ram has a history of similar allegations, having faced multiple cases related to illegal sex determination tests in the past. He was previously booked in cases registered in 1999, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, and October 2023. In one such instance in October 2023, health authorities from Hisar and Sirsa busted a racket linked to foetal sex determination, leading to action against him.
Apart from his medical practice, Dr Anant Ram has also been active in politics and has contested several Assembly elections from the Barwala constituency on different tickets, including as an Independent and from JJP.
