Haryana ex-Home Minister Subhash Batra seeks CBI probe into ‘unauthorised’ colony near IMT Kheri Sadh in Rohtak
Claims land worth Rs 300 crore acquired for Rs 25 crore
Former Haryana Home Minister and senior Congress leader Subhash Batra has sought a CBI or judicial probe into the alleged development of an unauthorised colony near IMT Kheri Sadh in Rohtak, terming it a major land “scam”.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Batra alleged that the colony was being developed without mandatory approvals from the authorities concerned. He claimed that the District Town Planning (DTP) Office had issued a show-cause notice to the parties involved, asking them to explain why the land should not be restored to its original estate and directing an immediate halt to further violations of applicable laws.
Calling for a high-level inquiry, Batra said he would escalate the matter if action was not taken. “If no action is initiated, the issue will be taken up from the Governor to the Prime Minister,” he warned.
“The land originally belonged to a private company that became insolvent several years ago, and irregularities were committed under the guise of the company’s insolvency proceedings. The land was leased out to the company by its owner for 90 years from 1985 to 2075 for an annual rent of Rs 3,000. As per the lease terms, any transfer of the land without proper authorisation is invalid,” alleged Batra.
He further claimed that influential individuals with political connections were associated with the matter and that the colony was being developed to “mint money”.
“The land is extremely valuable, with an estimated market price of Rs 300 crore, yet it was acquired by a successful resolution applicant in 2023 for just Rs 25 crore following the company’s insolvency. Moreover, a penal interest of Rs 77 crore on the company was also waived. This case is not merely about the bankruptcy of a single company but it also raises concerns about administrative accountability, potential revenue loss, questionable transactions, and allegations of political protection,” Batra added.
The former minister urged Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to order a thorough probe into the matter. He said the Chief Minister should set an example by exposing and punishing those found guilty.
