Highlighting the importance of the campaign, Bedi called upon citizens to adopt indigenous products and strengthen a self-reliant India.

The minister said the government had been focusing on promoting the swadeshi products to strengthen the economy and generate employment opportunities.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a campaign to promote the swadeshi products in order to support local manufacturers and shopkeepers. The multinational companies have been weakening the economy and the small-time shopkeepers are not getting enough customers due to which their livelihood is under threat. We are not asking the public to boycott foreign products, but we have been appealing to them to adopt swadeshi goods also and make their contribution in making India self-reliant,” the minister said.

Purchasing indigenous products benefits artisans, farmers, and small industries, and reduces the dependence on the foreign imports, making the country’s economy stronger, the minister added.

“Indigenous products are suited to Indian needs and lifestyles. Promotion of small and cottage industries will create job opportunities. Indigenous products also help in keeping Indian art and tradition alive,” Bedi said.
