Bharat Bandh: No major disruption in Karnal; Offices, transport run smoothly

Central Trade Union gave the call to press its demands, including withdrawal of labour codes among others

On the call given by the Central Trade Union, employees of various departments under the banner of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh (SKS) announced that they would observe ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Thursday, but there has been no impact of the strike in Karnal so far.

A large number of employees were seen working in their offices. Even the public transport system has continued without any disruption.

The Central Trade Union gave the call to press its demands, including withdrawal of the labour codes, stopping the privatisation of public sector undertakings, regularising all contractual and scheme-based workers and reinstating the old pension scheme, among others.

Sushil Gujjar, district president of the SKS, said as the day progresses, more employees are expected to participate in the strike. He said that a protest march would be taken out from Sector 12 Fountain Park to the Mini-Secretariat at around 1.30 pm, and a large number of employees are likely to join the strike.

Meanwhile, police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.
