Hisar, August 22

People from several residential colonies located in the Linepar area of Bhiwani district continued their indefinite dharna on 26th day today. The residents have been demanding the completion of the under-construction railway overbridge (RoB) at the local Jeetuwala railway crossing on the Rewari-Bathinda rail section.

The dharna is being organised by the rail overbridge mahapanchayat, Sudhar Samiti, Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of these localities and presided over by Kuldeep Singh Tanwar. The protesters demanded the authorities concerned to open the overbridge at the earliest and initiate action against the officials who were delaying its completion.

In a joint statement, Ramesh Shekhawat, Dr Sudhir Singh Tanwar and Rakesh Panwar said hundreds of people were reaching here every day to support the dharna, but the voice of people has not reached the government and the local administration yet as no official or leader had come to hear their plight.

The residents of the area are angry with the government due to its lackadaisical attitude. They said though the BJP has given the slogan of Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas, it has failed to listen to the problems of about 60 thousand people, who live in these localities. The BJP leaders are losing the trust of Bhiwani residents, they alleged.

Dr Sudhir Singh Tanwar, an activist, said it was surprising that BJP’s Bhiwani-Mahendragarh MP Dharamvir Singh has also turned a blind eye towards them. He said in the Lok Sabha elections, the residents had supported him wholeheartedly. “Now, he should come to the protest site to hear our plight and see the suffering of the protesting residents,” he said.

Dharna management committee member Rohtas Verma said the PWD and the bridge construction agency should have expedited the work, but they slowed it down after the protest.

The PWD Executive Engineer, Lokesh Dagar, said the work had been stopped on one side of the RoB due to some reasons. The Public Health Engineering Department needs to execute some work before resuming the work, he added.
