Kurukshetra, January 27

The Kurukshetra University (KU) administration has decided to install biometric attendance system in all 13 girls’ hostels.

Vice Chancellor KC Sharma said the process had been started to equip hostels with a better security-check system. He admitted that the initiative was taken after an alleged attempt was made to abduct a girl on Saturday.

He said it was a cause of concern as the alleged victim and her three companions from different hostels stayed away from their rooms during night without intimation. “The university has transparent rules on the movements to and from hostels. Biometric attendance will ensure better discipline,” the Vice Chancellor said.

There are 7,000 students in 24 hostels of the university. Around 4,000 students are staying in 13 girls’ hostels located on the campus.

As per their version, on Saturday night, four students, including two girls, were moving around the city allegedly in an inebriated condition.  They are second-year students of a postgraduate course and reside in hostels on the campus.

According to a police complaint filed by one of the four students, three of them consumed alcohol on the campus. An alleged attempt was made to abduct a girl by unidentified persons on the Salarpur road. A case has already been registered against unidentified persons.
