Ambala, August 30

While the BJP is trying hard to retain the Ambala Cantonment segment for the fourth consecutive time, the Congress and INLD aspirants are raising civic issues and have intensified their campaigns to put up a challenge for the saffron party.

The constituency is currently being represented by former Home Minister and six-time MLA Anil Vij. He believes the people of Ambala Cantonment will support the BJP for the fourth consecutive time on the basis of the work done.

However, Congress leader Chitra Sarwara and INLD leader Onkar Singh, who have been eyeing the ticket from their respective parties, believe the people will vote for change in the segment.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency was the only segment in the district where the BJP managed to secure a lead for the party candidate Banto Kataria.

The BJP workers are running a campaign ‘Kam kiya hai kam karenge’ to highlight the projects, including the upgrade of the Civil Hospital, Atal Cancer Centre, Civil Enclave, and Shaheed Smarak.

Vij said, “The Ambala segment has witnessed an unprecedented development over the past 10 years . We are confident that the people of Ambala will continue to show their faith in the BJP.”

Congress leader Chitra Sarwara, who had contested the last Assembly poll as an Independent, said, “With the ‘Haryana Mange Hisaab’ campaign we are making people aware of the wrong policies of the BJP and the pending projects in Ambala Cantonment. Poor water supply in residential colonies, waterlogging, corruption, pending projects are some of the issues that we have been raising with the public.”

INLD leader Onkar Singh, who is expecting the party’s ticket, said, “People of Ambala Cantonment have been dealing with a number of issues. We will focus on resolving these if given an opportunity.”
