BJP wins big in Sirsa municipal elections

At ward level, BJP wins 21 out of 32 wards

The counting of votes for the Sirsa Municipal Election took place peacefully on Wednesday at Chaudhary Devilal University’s Multipurpose Hall. The winners of the municipal chairperson and all 32 ward councillors were presented their certificates by the Returning Officer and SDM Rajender Kumar.

In the race for the chairperson’s post, BJP’s Shanti Swaroop Valmiki emerged victorious with 41,061 votes, securing a significant win with a margin of 12,379 votes. His closest rival, Congress candidate Jaswinder Kaur, received 28,682 votes. Other candidates, including Independent candidates and those from INLD, JJP, and AAP, also participated, but none posed a serious challenge to Shanti Swaroop’s lead.

In the ward-level elections, the BJP emerged strong, winning 21 out of the 32 wards. Among the notable wins for the BJP, Sanpreet Sodi won in Ward 4, Jaspal Singh claimed victory in Ward 5, and Manish Kumar emerged victorious in Ward 13. Additionally, Rajan Sharma and Deepak Bansal won in Ward 11 and Ward 12, respectively. The BJP also saw success in Ward 17, with Monika Sarraf winning by a large margin, and in Ward 19, where Ruby Sethi triumphed. BJP’s strong presence continued with victories in Ward 20 by Sanjeev Ratusaria, Ward 21 by Chandrika Ganeriwala, and Ward 23 by Kusum. The party also secured wins in Ward 24 with Vikram Saini and in Ward 25 with Pooja Rani.

While the BJP dominated the elections, the Congress still managed to secure several wins, with the candidates supported by the party winning in several wards. For instance, Aarti won in Ward 1, Chanchal Rani triumphed in Ward 2 and Ramesh Mehta secured a victory in Ward 3. The Congress also saw success in Ward 6, where Gopiram Saini won, and in Ward 16, where Randhir Kumar emerged victorious. The Congress candidates also managed to win in Ward 8, Ward 9, and Ward 10, showing that while the BJP was dominant, the Congress still had a strong foothold in certain areas.

In addition to the major party victories, there were two Independent candidates who won in the election. Saroj Rohilla won in Ward 22, while Rajendra Kumar claimed victory in Ward 26. Both candidates’ wins came despite the strong competition from party-supported candidates.

The peaceful and orderly conduct of the vote counting process was appreciated by everyone involved, with Returning Officer Rajender Kumar expressing gratitude for the smooth coordination. The elections concluded with a clear victory for the BJP, solidifying its dominance in Sirsa’s local political landscape. With 21 out of 32 ward wins, the BJP now has significant influence over the city’s governance and will play a key role in shaping Sirsa’s future.
