BJP’s Mafee becomes Chairperson of Thanesar Municipal Council
BJP’s Mafee Devi has been elected the new chairperson of the Thanesar Municipal Council and the party has also won majority in the House of 32 members with 25 candidates winning the election on the BJP ticket.
Mafee Devi defeated her nearest rival and Congress candidate Sunita Kumari by a margin of 32,577 votes. While Mafee was polled 47,828 votes, Sunita Kumari was polled 15,251 votes in the Municipal Council election.
In the election, AAP candidate Rukmani stood third with 2,868 votes while BSP candidate Rajbala secured 1,840 votes. While 908 voters voted for NOTA, Independent candidate Rattan Kaur managed to secure 655 votes.
The BJP has also managed to secure its majority in the house. While the BJP candidates won from Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31 and 32, the remaining wards, including the Wards 12, 16, 18, 21, 23, 29, and 30 by the Independent candidates. In Ward 7 and 32, the BJP candidates won uncontested.
After the results were declared, the BJP leaders and winners took out roadshows in the city, danced to the beats of dhol and distributed sweets. The party workers raised slogans in support of the party leaders.
Newly elected Thanesar Municipal Council Chairperson Mafee Devi said, “I am grateful to the people who have shown their faith in us. We will ensure a smooth development in Thanesar.”
Meanwhile, the results have boosted the morale of the BJP workers after the party faced a defeat in the last Assembly election in Thanesar.
BJP leader and former Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha, who led the party’s campaign, said, “We were confident and the people of Thanesar have elected the BJP candidates with big margins. Of 32 councillors, 25 have won on the BJP’s ticket and even the Independent candidates who have won the election have started approaching us to extend their support. The people of Thanesar were threatened and misguided in the Assembly election and that is why the results didn’t go in our favour then, but now, they have again shown their trust and our candidates have won. We will ensure that Thanesar sees development in the coming days.”
Meanwhile, in the byelection for the president’s post of Ismailabad Municipal Committee, BJP candidate Megha Bansal registered a victory by defeating her nearest Independent rival Deepshikha by a margin of 311 votes. While Megha Bansal was polled 2,766 votes, Deepshikha was polled 2,455 votes. Meanwhile, Independent candidates Harjeet got 910 votes, Nisha Rani 432 votes, and Ekta 136 votes. As many as 142 people voted for NOTA.
