Kurukshetra, September 29
The BKU (Charuni) has given a call of blocking roads in front of grain markets across the state on Wednesday in protest against the non-procurement of paddy.
Gurnam Singh Charuni, BKU (Charuni) chief, said: “A delegation of the BKU met Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) PK Das on Tuesday and apprised him of the farmers’ concerns. We requested him to relax the condition of 17 per cent moisture content in the produce. The permissible moisture limit should be revised to 22 per cent. Farmers are ready for the moisture cut.”
“The ACS did not give us assurance. Hence, farmers have been asked to block roads at 11 am in front of grain markets on Wednesday if procurement is not started by then,” Charuni said.
The ACS said, “The condition of 17 per cent moisture content is set by the FCI and the Centre. We do not have the authority to change that.” — TNS
