Three gas cylinders were found in the vehicle.
As per information, a person had left the car at the police station. Senior officers visited the spot and the car was shifted from the police station. The car, bearing a Delhi registration number plate, had been sold multiple times. It was last sold in Punjab. The cylinders were safely removed.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, the bomb disposal team was called. Officials said no explosive was found in the car.
SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat said, “A car was found parked in the police station and smoke was emanating from the trunk. During inspection, three small gas cylinders with regulators were found. Since it is a serious matter, five teams, including two teams of STF, have been constituted to investigate the matter.”
“In view of the Republic Day, combing operations are also being conducted in sensitive areas,” he added.
Ambala ASP Uttam said, “A person had parked his vehicle at the police station and then left from there. A little later, some smoke and a minor fire in the car was detected, which was doused by the policemen, and they tried to find out the owner. Later, the video of the incident was circulated, and we also found it suspicious, following which the car was inspected. The scene of the crime team has collected some evidence to find out the substance that caught fire.”
“Most likely, there was an inflammable article; however, the exact information about it will be available after getting the FSL report. The Delhi resident, who had sold the car, died last year, and efforts are being made to trace the person who was currently using the car. Our teams are working on all possible angles, including whether it was a task assigned to the person,” she added.
