The breach in the Hisar-Ghaggar drain has waterlogged large areas in the Chopta region of Sirsa district. The drain meant to carry the excessive rainwater from Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad districts is overflowing.
According to reports, the breach has resulted in waterlogging around the Sirsa-Chopta road besides flooding the road.
Sirsa Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar, who visited the region yesterday, said the situation of teh Hisar-Ghaggar drain near Darba was under control. “Drain is being cleaned with the help of JCB machines so that the capacity of the drain can be increased. However, there is no damage to the crops,” he said. SDM Jaiveer Yadav, Executive Engineer Irrigation Mandeep Sihag and other district officials accompanied the DC during the inspection.
The DC said BDPO and Irrigation Department officials had been directed to monitor the drain regularly. “MGNREGA workers have been employed to strengthen the embankments of the drain,” he added.
