A team of CIA-3 has busted a gang of cable thieves by arresting 14 persons allegedly involved in aluminium cable theft and solved nine theft cases. The police team also recovered Rs 2.40 lakh and two pick-up vehicles used in the crimes from the possession of the accused.

A team under the leadership of CIA-3 in-charge Ajay Kumar carried out a major crackdown on criminals involved in theft cases and arrested these accused identified as Vijay, Ravi, Ajay, Ravi Prakash, Praveen Kumar, Hemraj, Rakesh, Vikram, Sonu, all resident of Bhukhapuri village of the district, Rahul of Haibatpur village, Kamal of Deeg village in Kaithal district, Bittu Ram of Dayanagar Raison village of the district, Karnail Singh of Nigdhu, Pawan Kumar of Amin village in Kurukshetra district, said the spokesperson.

Providing details of the case, Ajay Kumar said a complaint was lodged at the Taraori police station by complainant project manager Pankaj Sharma, stating that unidentified persons had stolen aluminium wire at night from the new electricity board work site in the Nissing area. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under the relevant sections of law.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the investigation team took immediate action and first arrested four accused, who were produced before the court and taken on two day police remand. During intensive interrogation, the involvement of 10 more accused came to light. The accused confessed to committing several theft incidents in the areas of Sadar Karnal and Nissing police station, collectively.

All arrested accused were produced before the court on Sunday and were sent to the district jail, he added.
