Central University of Haryana hosts conference on sustainable, climate-resilient future

The Department of Environmental Studies of the School of Interdisciplinary and Applied Sciences at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh, organised the third National Conference of Environmental Nodal Officers (ENOs) on the theme “Ancient wisdom, modern technologies for a sustainable and climate-resilient future” in collaboration with the Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi initiative.

The conference aimed to promote dialogue on integrating traditional knowledge systems with modern scientific approaches for environmental conservation and sustainable development. Nearly 150 participants, including 30 ENOs from different states, attended the conference.

Four technical sessions were conducted during the two-day event, covering topics related to climate change, sustainability, environmental ethics, ecological conservation, and technological innovations. More than 60 research papers were presented by participants during the conference.

Addressing the participants, CUH Vice-Chancellor Prof Tankeshwar Kumar stated that the environment belongs to everyone and its conservation requires collective efforts from all sections of society.

He highlighted that several sustainable initiatives were being implemented at the university, including rooftop solar panels, the use of electric vehicles, rainwater harvesting systems, waste-to-energy practices, water recycling and scientific solid waste management.

He emphasised that environmental protection should be given priority in research and innovation and referred to the historical contributions of Amrita Devi and Guru Jambheshwar, encouraging the adoption of traditional ecological wisdom along with modern technology.

Prof Anita Singh, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies, welcomed the guests and participants and introduced the objectives of the conference.

During a technical session based on the theme “Innovation to implementation,” the experts shared insights on sustainable models and practical approaches.

The organisers stated that the event provided a national platform for meaningful

discussion on environmental protection and would inspire concrete action toward a sustainable and climate-resilient future by strengthening the bridge between ancient ecological wisdom and modern scientific innovations.
