Centre, Haryana sign MoU for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0
To accelerate ‘Har Ghar Swachh Jal’ goal, says CM
In a step towards strengthening rural water infrastructure, the Centre and Haryana Government on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The MoU was signed virtually in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and CM Nayab Singh Saini.
On behalf of the state government, Commissioner and Secretary, Public Health Engineering Department, Mohammed Shayin signed the MoU. The CM joined the signing ceremony via video conferencing from Chandigarh.
Describing the MoU as a milestone, Saini said Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 would deepen Centre-state collaboration while expanding the mission’s scope beyond water supply to include quality, sustainability, and long-term resource management.
The key components of the second phase would include modernisation of water storage infrastructure, expansion of piped supply to remaining households, targeted interventions in water-stressed districts such as Nuh, Palwal and Mahendragarh. An estimated Rs 3,000 crore would be invested.
Highlighting achievements under the first phase, the CM said Haryana fulfilled its commitment to ensure functional household tap connections (FHTCs) and regular potable water supply in rural areas. When the Jal Jeevan Mission was launched in 2019, only 58% rural households had tap water connections. The state achieved full coverage by 2022, said Saini.
Emphasising quality assurance, he said NABL-accredited advanced laboratories had been established in all 23 districts of the state. Mobile water testing vans had also been deployed in remote areas.
