Kurukshetra: Centre’s team conducts groundwater survey

Kurukshetra, July 12

A team representing the Central Government under Jal Shakti Abhiyan reached Kurukshetra and took a survey of the efforts being made by the authorities concerned for water conservation at the district level before the onset of the monsoon.

The team led by Ministry of Heavy Industries Deputy Secretary Sumit Kumar held a meeting with the officials concerned and shared a report on the groundwater survey conducted by them.

The team submitted the report of the heliborne survey to Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma. The report contains information about the groundwater level in Kurukshetra and various technical points related to groundwater conservation. The reports of the work being done at the panchayat level in Thanesar and Pehowa blocks to save groundwater were shared.

During the meeting, Dr Shashikant Singh, a scientist at the Central Groundwater Board, said the groundwater level was falling rapidly. He also gave suggestions to the district administration regarding the changes required at various levels to conserve water. He said the management of groundwater was very important.

The team expressed satisfaction over the quality of conservation work being done under the supervision of the Haryana Sarasvati Development Board (HSDB) and the Irrigation Department. The officials also directed the departments concerned to monitor the water sources after the monsoon to check how water had been conserved.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Jal Shakti Director Raghav Langer visited the Niwarsi Gram Panchayat of Ladwa Block today and inquired about the Atal Bhujal Yojana. He interacted with the farmers who had adopted water-efficient practices such as direct seeding of rice (DSR).
