A Children Helpline team, along with the local police, on Thursday rescued a child who was kept chained in Samchana village of the district. The child was then taken to the local PGIMS for his assessment and treatment.

District Child Welfare Committee chairman Raj Singh Sangwan said he saw a video of the chained child on social media, following which he sent the team to rescue the child.

“The doctors at the PGIMS will first check the IQ level of the child to assess his condition. Following that, he will be provided the required treatment,” he said, adding that the expenses incurred on treatment would be borne by the government.

He stated that whether any legal action should be taken against the father of the child would be decided after an inquiry into the entire episode. The child’s mother works as a domestic help, which his father is addicted to intoxicants.
