CJI Surya Kant on two-day visit to Hisar from today
To inaugurate courts, attend Bar, alumni programmes
Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant will be on a two-day visit to Hisar from tomorrow as a state guest, his first to the district after assuming office as CJI. A native of Petwar village in Hisar, the visit is being seen as a nostalgic return to his roots.
Justice Surya Kant will lay foundation stones of sub-divisional judicial complexes at Narnaund and Barwala, attend programmes of the Hisar and Hansi Bar Associations and participate in the alumni meet at Government College, Hisar, where he graduated. He will also visit his ancestral village Petwar and the government school where he studied, and will be accorded a civic reception by villagers.
Born into a rural family, Justice Surya Kant studied at a government school in Petwar, graduated from Government College, Hisar (1978-81), completed his LLB from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and began practice at the Hisar Bar in 1984. He later served as Advocate General of Haryana and as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court before becoming Chief Justice of India.
Recalling his college days, his classmate Praveer Arya said, “He was a free thinker and actively participated in debates and writing. He was a regular contributor to the college magazine.”
District Bar Association president Sandeep Boora said advocates would raise demands including a High Court bench and a RERA bench in Hisar.
Security arrangements have been tightened, with senior IAS and HPS officers deployed. Deputy Commissioner Mahender Pal, District and Sessions Judge Alka Malik and SP Shashank Kumar Sawan reviewed preparations.
