In an initiative to keep the environment clean, the regional office of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has placed a plastic water bottle collection bin at Jagadhri bus stand of Yamunanagar district.

Justice Pritam Singh (retd), who is now chairman of the State-Level Monitoring Committee for Solid Waste constituted by the National Green Tribunal, today set the initiative going by inaugurating the bin.

Appreciating the initiative, Justice Pritam Singh, an environment lover, urged HSPCB to take more steps to save and protect the environment.

“For the first time in Haryana, a plastic water bottle collection bin has been placed at Jagadhri. It will help in management of plastic waste in the district,” said Nirmal Kumar, Regional Officer, HSPCB, Yamunanagar.

He said they would put nine more such bins in twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri at different places including Yamunanagar bus stand, railway station and eating points within a month. He added afterwards they would put bins in small towns and big villages too.

“When I saw empty bottles littered at public and private places, it pinched me a lot. Therefore, I decide to solve this problem and got this bin (cage) made,” said Nirmal Singh. He said the bottles collected in the bin would be sold to an authorized recycler.

Babu Ram, member of the State-Level Monitoring Committee for Solid Waste, Deputy Commissioner Mukul Kumar, Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh, HSPCB Senior Engineer Bhupinder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Kuldeep Singh and Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, Dr Vijay Dahiya were present on the occasion.
