Rewari, April 11

A constable of the Haryana Police was mowed down today by cattle smugglers at a naka near the Rajesh Pilot chowk.

Though the police sealed all border points of the city after the incident, the smugglers managed to escape. The deceased has been identified as Raj Singh of Chidi village in Rohtak district.

Sources said a police team spotted a mini-truck carrying some cattle and men near Poswal Chowk here around 3 am. The team tried to stop the vehicle but failed. It then alerted the cops deputed at the Rajesh Pilot chowk and started chasing the truck.

“Cops were deputed at the naka at the Rajesh Pilot chowk when the truck came and mowed down Raj Singh. He was taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said sources. Rewari SP Sangeeta Kalia said the cattle smugglers had been identified and would be arrested soon. — TNS
