Chandigarh, July 13

A delegation of the Congress, led by former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Uday Bhan, today submitted a memorandum to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, highlighting the issues of “deteriorating” law and order, alleged scams, corruption and police “brutality” against agitators in the state.

In the last few days, six MLAs of the state Renu Bala, Sanjay Singh, Surendra Pawar, Kuldeep Vats, Subhash Gangoli, Maman Khan and their families had received threats. “Miscreants entered the house of Kuldeep Vats, beat up his personal staff and threatened to kill him,” Hooda stated.

The memorandum alleged that movements of farmers, workers and other classes were suppressed using brute force and false cases were registered against agitators.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and Tosham MLA Kiran Choudhry demanded the constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) under a DGP-rank officer on the issue of threats to MLAs. “The SIT should interact with the NIA, IB and RAW for information on these criminals,” she said.
