Congress protests over pension, BPL, HPSC recruitment, India-US trade deal in Karnal
Party leaders submit memorandum to President demanding halt to HPSC recruitments of outsiders, among others
On the call of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPSC), Congress workers and senior leaders staged a protest at the Mini Secretariat here on Monday over several public interest issues, including the removal of beneficiaries’ names from the old age pension list, BPL ration card lists, alleged irregularities in Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) recruitments, and the proposed India–US trade deal.
Party leaders submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding halting recruitments of people outside the state in the HPSC, restoration of old age pension beneficiaries whose names were allegedly removed without justification, correction of irregularities in BPL ration cards, and cancellation of the India–US trade agreement, which they claim is “anti-farmer”.
Parag Gaba, District President (Urban), said, “The removal of names of genuine beneficiaries from the old age pension list is an injustice. The elderly, who depend entirely on this support, are being forced to suffer due to administrative failures. The government must immediately restore their rights.”
Rajesh Vaid, District President (Rural), added, “Irregularities in BPL ration cards have deprived many deserving families of essential food supplies. This reflects the insensitivity of the government towards the poor and marginalised sections of society.”
Former MLA Sumita Singh criticised HPSC recruitments, saying, “The recruitment of people from outside the state snatches the rights of Haryana’s youth. We demand transparency and fairness in the process to safeguard local employment opportunities.”
Working State President Suresh Gupta Matlauda expressed strong opposition to the India–US trade deal. “This trade agreement is anti-farmer and will severely impact our agricultural sector. The interests of country’s farmers cannot be compromised at any cost,” he said.
District Vice President (Rural) Sanjay Mehla added, “The Congress will continue to raise its voice against policies that harm common citizens.”
Congress leader Tejinder Singh Maan urged the government to take immediate corrective steps, and warned that the party would intensify its agitation if their demands are not addressed.
