By giving tickets to sitting Sadhaura MLA Renu Bala and Radaur MLA Bishan Lal Saini, the Congress has trusted its old warhorses in Yamunanagar district.

However, the party is yet to decide candidates for the Jagadhri and Yamunanagar Assembly constituencies.

Renu Bala is a loyalist of Sirsa MP and Congress leader Kumari Selja and Bishan Lal Saini belongs to the faction of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The BJP has also announced the name of its candidates for all four Assembly constituencies of the district.

Former MLA Balwant Singh has been fielded from Sadhaura Assembly constituency, sitting MLA Kanwar Pal Gujjar from Jagadhri Assembly constituency, sitting MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora from Yamunanagar seat and former MLA Shyam Singh Rana from Radaur Assembly constituency.

Congress leader Renu Bala, a first-time MLA, was elected from the reserved Sadhaura Assembly constituency on the Congress ticket in 2019. She defeated Balwant Singh of the BJP. The Sadhaura Assembly seat is likely to witness a tough contest between the Congress candidate and the BJP candidate. BJP leader Balwant Singh is a three-time MLA. He was elected an MLA on the BJP ticket in 2014, on the INLD ticket in 2005 and in 2000, from this reserved Assembly constituency of the district. In Radaur Assembly constituency, there may be a direct contest between Congress candidate Bishan Lal Saini and BJP candidate Shyam Singh Rana.

Three-time MLA Bishan Lal Saini was elected an MLA from Radaur Assembly segment on the Congress ticket in 2019, from Radaur Assembly segment on the INLD ticket in 2009 and from Jagadhri Assembly segment on the BSP ticket in 2000.

He defeated BJP’s Karan Dev Kamboj from the Radaur Assembly constituency in 2019. After being denied a party ticket from Radaur Assembly constituency, Kamboj is unhappy and he resigned from the post of president of BJP OBC Morcha, Haryana and other posts of the BJP on September 5.

“The BJP and the Congress have two MLAs each in all four Assembly constituencies of Yamunanagar district. Both parties have fielded their MLAs as their candidates in the Assembly election here. But, all four MLAs will have to work hard to retain their seats,” said a political observer.
