The state government, with the help of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), on Friday started the construction work of the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) on the premises of the new bus stand near the Baldi bypass.

The project aims at promoting road safety and generating traffic sense among commuters. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in March. As per the authorities, the IDTR will be developed this year with an investment of Rs 20 crore.

Dhanpat Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Transport; Harbhajan Singh, director general, corporate affairs, HMSI, along with other officials, were present.

“We have taken various CSR initiatives in the field of health, environment, education, road safety and rural development in Haryana. The purpose of the IDTR facility is to impart practical training, develop sound driving habits and generate traffic sense among trained people to become more competent drivers/riders,” said Harbhajan Singh.

Dhanpat Singh said there would be test tracks and well-maintained vehicles for training. Besides, there would be a classroom with latest training aids and computerised systems. —TNS
