Rohtak, July 12

The Court of Rohtak Additional District and Sessions Judge Fakhruddin has issued notices to the INLD MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Assembly Abhay Singh Chautala and six others in connection with a case of murder which took place in Meham township of Rohtak district in 1990.

The matter, pertaining to the murder of Hari Singh, a resident of Kharak Jatan village, is connected to the infamous episode of violence that took place in Meham during the Assembly elections in 1990.

Hari Singh’s brother Ramphal, a former assistant sub-inspector (ASI), had earlier filed a complaint at a Meham court, but it had been dismissed. The complainant then filed a revision petition at the Rohtak court, which issued notices to the respondents, asking them to appear before the court on September 7.

The counsel for the petitioner, Sarvajeet Singh Sangwan, said the police had registered an FIR in the case of murder of Ramphal’s brother Hari Singh in 1990.

“However, the police did not take any concrete action regarding the matter. We sought information regarding the case under the RTI Act, but the authorities concerned maintained that the record pertaining to the investigation of the case had been destroyed,” he stated.
