Crime graph spirals in Faridabad

Faridabad, which is on the path to become a smart city, has also become a law and order-sensitive district in view of a large number of murder incidents taking place here regularly. At least eight persons have been murdered in the city recently.

Though the police authorities claim to be more active and alert in taking action to curb crime, the murder graph, however, belies the officials’ claims.

“The figure since August 15 this year is showing a kind of new high, with eight murders in the past 25 days. This has exposed the seriousness of the issue and has disturbed the crime graph”, sources in the department said.

The first incident in the series took place on the night of August 16, when Kuldeep (22) was killed over a trivial issue. He was hit on head with a brick by his friends who got offended by his remarks on their assembling at a spot in Surya Vihar of Palla area late in the night. Two youths were arrested in the case, who confessed that the reason of assault was not serious enough.

On the same day, Sanjay (25) of Nehru Colony of NIT, was murdered by kin of the woman he had eloped with eight months ago to get married. As the woman came back to her house here, her kin hatched a conspiracy and killed Sanjay after getting him to consume liquor in Surajkund hills. His body was found five days later.

In the third case, Bittoo (35), an auto rickshaw driver, was shot on the night of August 22 while he was asleep at his house in a colony of Sector 48. He was killed by his wife’s paramour. Meanwhile, two people were arrested in connection with the murder case of a Greater Faridabad resident last month. The murders of Adil (26) of Badkhal, Rajat of Greenfield Colony and Ashraf Ali of Sanjay colony also had the background of illicit relations, said a senior official of the crime branch.

The police are yet to arrest the accused in the murder case of a taxi driver, who was killed with the intention of snatching his vehicle.

Sube Singh, PRO of the police, claimed that since murders fall into unorganised crime category, it was difficult to prevent such crimes. Moreover, a majority of such incidents were connected with personal rivalry, illicit relations or economic reasons. Despite staff shortage, the police were trying its best to curb the crime, he added.
