Narender Bijarniya, a 2015-batch IPS officer, joined as new Karnal Superintendent of Police (SP) late Thursday evening.
Bijarniya was awaiting posting order after his name surfaced in the abetment to suicide case of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.
Y Puran Kumar had died by suicide on October 7. In a note, he had named several IAS and IPS officers, including then DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Bijarniya.
Bijarniya took charge from SP Ganga Ram Punia, who has been appointed SP, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). He has earlier served in several districts, including as SP in Rohtak.
Listing his priorities, Bijarniya said his primary responsibility is to maintain law and order, prevent crime and take strict legal action against offenders. He asserted that no person would be allowed to take law into their hands and stern action would be taken against anyone violating the law.
He said the Karnal police would take concrete steps to ensure effective crime control, speedy detection of criminal cases, strengthening of traffic system and curbing illegal sale of narcotics and other unlawful activities. He emphasised that public complaints would be addressed in a timely and effective manner.
The SP added that successful policies and working style adopted by his predecessor Ganga Ram Punia would be continued, with necessary improvements, to further strengthen policing in the district.
He maintained that continuous efforts would be made to enhance crime control, public safety and the efficiency of police personnel.
