Haryana Police cyber team flags 2,052 links in month-long online drive
DGP warns of strict action against inflammatory online content
A month-long special digital safety campaign launched by Haryana Police against illegal, objectionable and misleading online content has yielded significant results, with 2,052 links and profiles reported and 1,616 removed or blocked.
The drive, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, was initiated in response to the growing circulation of misleading, provocative and socially disruptive content across social media and digital platforms.
According to officials, the cyber team has been monitoring digital platforms round the clock and taking coordinated action. Of the 2,052 links flagged during the campaign, 1,616 instances of objectionable content have already been taken down by the respective social media platforms. The remaining 436 links are under review, with authorities ensuring time-bound action.
Swift action under IT Act
Under the campaign, the cyber team has been identifying posts, videos, links and profiles containing misleading information, provocative language or content capable of disturbing public peace. In such cases, notices are issued to social media intermediaries under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, seeking immediate removal.
Officials said the process is being carried out in a transparent, strict and time-bound manner.
Crackdown on fake trading apps
In view of rising online investment frauds, a parallel drive against fake trading and investment applications was launched on January 12, 2026, under the directions of Director General of Police Ajay Singhal.
So far, 125 suspicious apps and channels have been identified. Of these, 88 have been removed from digital platforms, while 37 are under final review, with the takedown process underway.
The DGP said the initiative marked a strong step towards enhancing digital security for citizens and curbing online investment fraud.
Zero tolerance for inflammatory content
DGP Ajay Singhal issued a stern warning against spreading false or inflammatory content online.
“Strict action will be taken against those spreading false, misleading, or inflammatory content on social media,” he said, adding that social media has a wide influence and provocative material can pose a serious threat to social harmony and peace.
He urged citizens not to click on suspicious links, verify the authenticity of apps or platforms before investing, avoid sharing unverified content and promptly report suspicious posts or applications to the police or the cyber helpline.
