Deepa Malik, a noted Paralympic athlete, and INLD MLA from Hathin Kehar Singh Rawat today joined the BJP in the presence of the state party chief Subhash Barala and general secretary Anil Jain. The others to join the saffron fold today included two Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders — Jharkhand state president of the party Annapurna Devi and ex-MLA Janardan Paswan

“The work that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done for women empowerment and his thoughts towards women are evident. He has put women in leading portfolios and has also extensively worked for the disabled,” Deepa said. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympic Games.

“We welcome her into the party. She is an inspiration for all of us. She has made the country proud,” Jain said. The BJP is yet to announce the candidates for Haryana and Delhi. Speculations are that the two new entrants from Haryana may be in the reckoning for the forthcoming elections.
