Addressing the gathering, Selja highlighted Guru Ravidas’s message of equality, justice and human values. She also paid homage on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Dr BR Ambedkar, reiterating her commitment to protecting the Constitution and advancing social justice. She offered prayers before the Guru Granth Sahib.

Selja said Dhamtan Sahib was an important spiritual site associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur, who visited the area three times. She noted that a historic well in the region dates back to his era and that the site has evolved into a significant centre of faith for devotees.

Reaffirming her tribute to Ambedkar, the MP said every citizen enjoys the rights guaranteed by the Constitution drafted under his leadership, and safeguarding it is the collective duty of all. Thousands of devotees and several local leaders attended the event.

Later, speaking on India’s foreign relations, Selja said the country has maintained strong ties with Russia since the time of its first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru—relations that continued under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. She accused the present government of attempting to discredit Nehru, saying “defaming Nehru has become the primary objective of those in power”.

She added that efforts to erase Nehru from history were aimed at weakening the political, social and economic foundations he had helped build. Selja said India’s relationship with Russia should continue to strengthen.
