Digital campaigning ends era of autos with loudspeakers
To reach voters in the constituency, political parties have shifted their election campaigns to digital platforms. Political slogans blaring from loudspeakers mounted on auto-rickshaws are no longer heard in the constituencies. Not only the BJP and Congress, but other parties have also adopted digital platforms to convey their message to the voters by using social media platforms — X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube — and WhatsApp groups at booth level and through SMSs, voice calling etc.
The traditional election campaigning has become history as very few vehicles mounted with mike were seen in the city.
Gaurav Singh, media coordinator with BJP candidate and sitting MLA Pramod Vij from Panipat City, said that campaigning is getting updated day by day. The party broadcasts information on social media platforms like X, Facebook and WhatsApp to mobilise lower-level party functionaries and voters. Every small development of the party or candidates can be shared on all these platforms, he said.
The BJP has set up a centralised information centre at Chandigarh and Rohtak. The party is presenting its MLAs or candidates as performers and connecting the people with the work they have done in the past 10 years, he said.
The BJP has made a separate page for every constituency and presented all the projects it did in the last 10 years. Apart from this, the BJP has the complete data of voters ward wise and booth wise, which is very helpful in connecting with them during campaigning, Gaurav added.
Chandveer Hooda, incharge, media and communication, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), said that technology has totally changed the campaigning mode. Chandveer said that special WhatsApp groups have been made at the booth level and all material related to the Congress’ policies and other information are being shared on these groups.
Separate groups of youths, girls and women have been formed on which special content of the party is being uploaded regularly, he said.
Apart from this, special digital watches with the slogan ‘Time to change is coming’ have been set up in various cities, Chandveer said.
Although there is no alternative to door-to-door campaigning, digital platforms are necessary to reach every person within the shortest time, he said.
Three advanced technology based media centres at Chandigarh, Delhi and Rohtak have been set up and special teams have been attached with the candidates to update all the developments on time, Chandveer said.
