Drainage, discharge of sewage into canal discussed at meeting

MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora and Mayor Suman Bahamani held a joint meeting with officials of the municipal corporation and Public Health and Engineering Department.
At the meeting, the issues of water drainage problems of the city’s Azad Nagar area and the discharge of sewage into the Western Jamuna Canal were discussed.
The meeting was also attended by the trainee IAS officer Suman.
At the meeting detailed discussions were held to resolve these problems and MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora gave clear instructions to the officials to jointly visit the area.
He asked them to find a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem at Azad Nagar, so that residents did not have to face any difficulty.
Mayor Suman Bahamani gave instructions to the officials that temporary measures alone would not suffice; rather, a long-term plan must be made and implemented.
The MLA objected to the discharge of sewage of drains into the Western Jamuna Canal.
He directed officials to prevent sewage from flowing directly into the canal and asked them to ensure its flow to the sewage treatment plant (STP).
He said the discharge of sewage into the canal adversely impacted the environment and drinking water sources, which was unacceptable under any circumstances.
Bahmani also directed officials to ensure regular and effective cleaning of drains.
She said silt and garbage accumulation in many drains was obstructing water drainage.
He issued strict instructions, stating that action would be taken against the employees who were negligent in cleaning work.
The meeting also discussed the problem of waterlogging in other affected areas, including Shadipur. The officials were instructed to survey these areas and take necessary steps.
Additionally, instructions were given to install additional pumping sets and repair sewerage lines where necessary.
“Providing basic amenities to the residents is our priority and the problem of water drainage will be resolved soon,” said Bahamani. She stressed on providing relief to the public by working in coordination with the officials.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar said the work of cleaning the drains would be started soon. He said they would try to find a permanent solution to the problem of water drainage at Azad Nagar.
Assistant Engineers of Municipal Corporation Mrinal Jaiswal, Surender Dahiya, Rajesh Sharma, Chief Sanitation Inspector Harjeet Singh, Vinod Beniwal, Junior Engineer Ajay Kumar and SDO of Public Health Department Sunny Singh were present.
