In view of the CBI court’s sentence for murder convict Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim slated to be delivered through video-conferencing on Thursday, the district police authorities have made tight security arrangements around the Sunaria jail complex where the dera chief is lodged.

The dera head, who is undergoing 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping two of his women disciples, has also been convicted in the murder case of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

Rohtak SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said 10 nakas had been put up around the Sunaria jail complex and 800 policemen, including Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel, had been deployed to ensure the maintenance of law and order in view of the sentencing of the dera chief.

“Drone cameras have been used to keep a close vigil on the area surrounding the jail complex. A team of cyber experts is monitoring the social media and strict legal action will be taken against those posting any provocative content,” the SP maintained.

A DSP-level officer and three police inspectors have been deployed to supervise the security arrangements around the prison complex. Five patrolling parties have also been pressed into service.

Police personnel, armed with weapons and having walkie-talkie sets, are manning the nakas and vehicles as well as pedestrians are being allowed to cross the nakas only after checking their identity cards and recording their particulars.

Intelligence agencies and CIA wings have been directed to observe the movements of suspicious persons and anti-social elements. Police personnel have also been deployed at the local railway station and bus stand.

“Tear gas team, water cannons, anti riot team and reserved companies of the police force have been kept on alert at the local police lines,” the SP said, adding that all SHOs and officials in charge of police posts have also been alerted.

If any resident notices any suspicious person/ activity, he/she can inform the police control room on 01262-100, 247894 and 9996464100.
