Drunk truck driver runs amok, power poles, vehicles damaged
Woman hurt; electricity supply disrupted in residential areas
The incident occurred on Colony Road, where the speeding truck first hit two electricity poles near a bank, completely damaging them. The out-of-control vehicle then smashed into several cars, motorcycles and scooters, leaving many vehicles damaged.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was being driven at high speed and in a reckless manner. “The incident caused widespread panic in the market, but fortunately, no fatalities occurred,” they said.
A woman riding a motorcycle was knocked down after being hit by the truck and sustained injuries. She was rushed to hospital for treatment. The collision led to the collapse of two power poles, cutting off electricity supply to Colony Road and adjoining lanes.
Before reaching Colony Road, the truck had also hit an electricity transformer near Gali Number 6 in the Ekta Nagari area, further aggravating the power disruption.
Police said multiple vehicles were badly damaged in the incident. The truck was later seized, and the driver was taken into custody. “Legal action will be taken according to the law,” officials said.
Teams of the power department were engaged in repairing damaged poles and the transformer. Officials said efforts were underway to restore electricity supply at the earliest.
