Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala, who is locked in a tough contest with Prem Lata of the BJP in the Uchana Kalan Assembly constituency in Jind district, today alleged bogus polling in Dumarkha village of the constituency.

Dumarkha is the native village of Prem Lata, wife of former Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP Birender Singh. Her son Brijendra Singh is the Lok Sabha MP from Hisar.

Dushyant said he had complained to a polling official at the booth that a woman, on reaching the polling station, had found out that her vote had already been cast.

“An agent for the BJP candidate tried to throw a tumbler at me. I complained to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Dahiya, DSP and others and demanded a re-poll on booth number 49. The DC has assured me that a probe will be conducted,” he said.

Dahiya and SP Ashwin Shenvi reached the spot and additional force was deployed in Dumarkha village. The DC said they had not come across any video proof or other evidence of the incident.

“We have received some complaints and have assigned a probe,” said the DC. He said they had received six to seven complaints from across the district and every complaint was being looked into seriously.

Meanwhile, the polling went off smoothly in the district, except for an incident at Uchana Kalan. The district recorded 67.45 per cent polling. The Julana segment recorded the highest turnout of 71 per cent. The remaining segments, including Narwana (reserved), Safidon, Uchana Kalan and Jind, registered polling percentage of 70.40, 69, 67 and 60.
