Eight devotees from Haryana injured in Una road accident
Four referred to PGI in serious condition, driver booked for negligence
Eight devotees from Kurukshetra district in Haryana were injured when a tempo in which they were travelling skidded off the road near Pir Nigaha shrine in Una district during the intervening night of March 4 and 5.
According to a release issued by the Una police, Sanjay, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Pehowa, Kurukshetra, complained that he was travelling in the ill-fated vehicle (HR45B-1564), along with his wife, two children and mother. There were about 15 pilgrims in the vehicle, who had come to Pir Nigaha shrine after paying obeisance at Dera Baba Vadbhag Singh shrine at Mairi village.
After offering prayers, the devotees boarded the tempo for their return journey to home. The driver failed to negotiate a turn and the vehicle skidded off the road.
The injured were taken to the Una district hospital, from where four of them — Tinku, Parvinder, Dilbagh Singh and Gurmeet Singh — were referred to PGI, Chandigarh, in a serious condition. Others were discharged after first-aid at the Una hospital.
The police have registered a case for negligent driving against driver Sahib Singh, a resident of Thanesar in Kurukshetra, under various sections of the BNS and Motor Vehicles Act.
