Karnal, November 8

A major fire engulfed two godowns of electric goods in Shalimar Colony late on Wednesday evening, destroying electric goods worth crores.

As many as eight fire tenders were pressed into service, which took more than four hours to douse the flames. The investigation is underway to know the exact cause of the fire.

Kulwant Kaler, owner of the godowns, said around 7.15 pm he received a call about the blaze engulfing the godowns, after which he called up the fire tenders. There was a scrap godown between his two godowns. The fire broke out at the scrap godown first and spread to his godowns. He claimed goods worth more than Rs 1.70 crore were reduced to ashes.

Kaler said there was a possibility that firecrackers had caused the fire in the scrap godown.
