Demand conservation of the Aravalli mountain range
A large number of environmental activists, members of social organisations and local people gathered outside the residence of Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh today and protested peacefully for the conservation of the Aravalli mountain range.
During the protest, people held posters and banners in their hands and raised slogans like “Save Aravali – Save the future” and “No Aravali, no life”.
The protesters expressed deep concern over the Supreme Court order in which a decision has been taken regarding areas less than 100 metres high in the Aravalli region.
“This decision could encourage mining, construction and commercial activities, increasing the risk of destroying the natural beauty of the Aravalli range. It is believed that this decision could be detrimental to environmental balance,” the protesters said.
They said, “The Aravalli mountain range is a natural protective shield for the Delhi-NCR region, playing an important role in preventing pollution, desertification and water crisis.”
They demanded from the government that Aravali should be declared a completely protected area and a strict and clear policy should be made for its conservation.
“Nature cannot be compromised in the name of development, as the conservation of the Aravalli is linked to a secure future for the coming generations. The toxic air is gradually spreading in the entire city,” a protester Sanjiti said.
