Faridabad gang rape: Haryana women commission takes cognisance
Panel seeks police report; victim stable, accused in judicial custody
The Haryana State Commission for Women on Sunday took cognisance of the alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old woman in Faridabad, officials said.
Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia has sought a detailed report from Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta on the incident and the action taken so far. Bhatia said she has spoken to the victim’s family and assured them of all necessary assistance.
Meanwhile, Dr Amit Yadav, who is treating the survivor at a private hospital, said her condition is stable. “Surgery was performed on her face on Saturday to treat deep facial injuries. With her consent, surgery for her fractured right shoulder will be conducted,” he said.
According to police, the woman had visited a friend’s house in Sector 23 on Monday evening. While returning home, she took an auto-rickshaw to NIT-2 Chowk and then walked towards Metro Chowk. Around midnight, as she waited for another auto, the driver of a private hospital ambulance and his accomplice allegedly offered her a lift.
Instead of taking her home, the accused allegedly drove towards Gurugram and raped her inside the moving vehicle. She was reportedly driven around through the night and thrown out near Raja Chowk in Faridabad around 3 am on Tuesday. The survivor was later admitted to a private hospital.
The two accused, residents of Mathura and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh; have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police said the woman remains hospitalised six days after the incident. An identification parade will be conducted before a magistrate once her condition improves, following which the accused will be brought on production warrant for further questioning.
