Farmers to take out tractor march on Feb 18 in Haryana'sKarnal
Have been protesting for the non-construction of connecting roads on both sides of Eastern bypass
Intensifying their protest over non-construction of connecting roads between Meerut road and Rasulpur village on the both sides of the Eastern bypass even after written assurance, farmers announced that they would take out a tractor march on February 18 at Devi Lal Chowk. They claimed that hundreds of tractors were expected to participate in the march.
Under the banner of the BKU, the farmers continued to protest on Sunday. They have been staging a dharna for the past 10 days and halted the construction work.
Addressing the gathering, BKU district spokesperson Surender Sangwan said the tractor march would proceed from Devi Lal Chowk through the NH-44 service lane to the Mini-Secretariat for sending a strong message to the government and the district administration about the unity and strength of the farming community.
He said that despite the passage of 10 days, no concrete steps or meaningful dialogue had been initiated by the authorities, leading to growing resentment at the protest site.
“Resentment prevails among the farming community over the non-construction of connecting roads, forcing the farmers to stage a dharna. We will take out a tractor march on February 18,” said Sangwan.
Apart from the demand for connecting roads along the Eastern by-pass, a part of the Karnal Ring Road, the farmer leaders also highlighted other pressing issues, including the restoration of old-age pensions allegedly discontinued for several elderly beneficiaries and concerns over the India–US agricultural trade agreement. They said that these matters directly impacted both rural population and the wider public.
He said their protest had garnered support from nearby villages, with the residents expressing solidarity with the farmers.
