Technical glitches continue to trouble motorists at toll plazas even as the national highway authorities and toll plaza officials have claimed that the number of complaints have come down in the last couple of weeks.

Raman of Hisar complained that he got stuck on the toll plaza at Chaudharywas on the Hisar-Rajgharh national highway as the bar code scanner showed insufficient balance though his FASTag account had a balance of Rs 150.

“I paid via FASTag and expected discount on return journey. I had to pay Rs 55 for one-way journey as the toll system showed insufficient balance,” he said.

Naveen Singh of Hisar complained that his prepaid FASTag showed deduction on December 15 while his car was parked at his residence.

“I complained to the toll plaza authorities and the NHAI authorities, but in vain. I dumped the prepaid FASTag bought from the toll plaza and procured another from another company,” he said.

Vipin Mangla, a NHAI official at Hisar, stated that FASTag deduction was a centralised system and chances of errors like unauthorised deduction were rare. “There are chances of an error in one case among 1,000 cases. There is a redressal system,” he said.

He said the FASTag system would deduct charges if an operational sticker came in the range at any toll plaza even if it was carried in a pocket. He said the error could be due to FASTag stickers being sold by different companies.
