Fire engulfs Safidon unit, 4 women killed, 13 workers injured

A massive fire broke out at a colour making unit at Bhat Colony in Safidon of Jind district on Saturday, killing four women and seriously injuring 13 workers.

The authorities said the blaze was caused by a short circuit. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Imran Raza, Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh and firefighters rushed to the spot to tackle the blaze.

The injured were rushed to Safidon and Jind hospitals, with some later referred to the PGI for specialised treatment.

Workers were carrying out their usual task when the fire erupted, quickly spreading through the factory. Four women reportedly jumped from the rooftop to save their lives.

The deceased have been identified as Pinky from Singhpura village, Guddi from Ward 9, Pooja from Diggi Mohalla and Usha from Adarsh Colony.

The police have filed a case against factory owner Rakesh, along with Devendra, Satnarayan, Ramkaran and an unidentified person.

DC Raza said all patients were being provided proper medical care and steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
