As per available information, the bike-borne trio had allegedly opened fire on the premises of a private hospital and outside a shopping mall in Yamunanagar around 10.30 pm on Saturday.
After opening about 17-18 rounds of fire at both places, the suspects fled the spot.
The firing incident caused chaos in the hospital as patients, their attendants and nearby shopkeepers ran helter-skelter for safety.
Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal said that soon after getting information about the incidents, the police intensified checking in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri and other parts of the district.
“A CIA team of the Yamunanagar police was checking in the Kansapur area of Yamunanagar. Around 5 am today, when the team tried to stop the three motorcycle-borne suspects, they opened fire on the team. In the cross-firing that ensued, two accused sustained bullet injuries and the third youth sustained injuries after falling from the motorcycle,” said SP Kamaldeep Goyal.
He said 25-30 shots were fired from both sides during the encounter.
“As per preliminary investigation, it appears to be a case of extortion. Investigations are under way to determine whether the miscreants are linked to any gang,” said SP Kamaldeep Goyal.
