Flipkart warehouse staff go on strike in Jhajjar over wage, contract disputes

Employees at the Flipkart warehouse on Gurugram Road went on strike on Sunday, demanding higher wages, restoration of allowances and greater job security. The workers said the protest would continue until their demands were accepted.

The employees staged a dharna outside the warehouse, prompting the deployment of police personnel to maintain law and order.

Taking note of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Varsha Khangwal deputed Assistant Labour Commissioner Rajendra Hooda and Naib Tehsildar Arvind to visit the site and hear the workers' grievances.

"The Tehsildar is also in continuous contact with the protesters," the Deputy Commissioner said.

Heavy police deployment remained in place at the warehouse.

"We are on strike and have been staging a dharna since last evening, and it will continue until our demands are met. We will not allow the company to function," said Mohit, one of the protesters from Delhi who has been working at the warehouse for the past few months.

Another employee alleged that the night shift allowance had been reduced from Rs 120 to Rs 50, triggering widespread resentment among workers.

"We have also received information that the contracts of some employees may be terminated before the stipulated period. Therefore, we are demanding that all contracts should be at least one year long and not ended prematurely. The current positions of all employees should also be retained," he said.

The workers are also demanding monthly payment of attendance bonuses, an assurance that no protesting employee will be blacklisted or suspended, a daily wage of Rs 783, and salary increments for employees who have completed more than four years of service.

According to the protesters, district officials have assured them that their demands would be taken up for consideration.

Company official Dipansh declined to comment, saying he was occupied with arrangements for the incoming shift and would respond later.
