A team of food and drug administration led by district Food Safety Officer inspected a factory and destroyed nearly five quintals of paneer at Sector 2 in Kurukshetra on Tuesday.
As per the information, the team had reached the factory on the basis of a complaint received against the factory allegedly being run without licence.
District Food Safety Officer Dr Amit Chauhan said, “Following a complaint received, we inspected the factory and samples have been taken. During the inspection, cans of refined oil and vanaspati have been found and it is being suspected that the factory owner was using refined oil and vanaspati to increase the fat content while preparing paneer. The factory was in operation for the past few months and they were working on a big scale. Over five quintals of paneer was destroyed on the spot, as it was perishable item, after taking samples.”
“We can’t allow such products to go in market for further sales as it may cause harm to the consumers. Samples of milk and khoya have also been sent to food testing laboratory in Chandigarh for analysis and further action will be taken on the basis of the report. The factory owner was not present during the inspection and no licence was also presented before the team following which a notice has been issued to the owner,” he added.
