Panipat police arrested a notorious gangster from the Delhi airport in the wee hours of Wednesday after he arrived from Moscow. The accused, wanted in over 15 criminal cases across Panipat, Sonepat, Karnal and Chandigarh, was allegedly running an extortion racket from abroad through his associates.
The gangster has been identified as Sunil alias Shilu Dahar, a resident of Dahar village in Panipat district.
He was wanted in two recent firing incidents targeting businessmen — one on a sweet shop owner in Samalkha on January 6 and another on transporter C Subramanyam in Mehrana village on January 24.
SP Bhupender Singh said, “Two firing incidents — including firing on a sweet shop owner in Samalkha on January 6 and firing on a transporter C Subramanyam in Mehrana village on January 24 — have occurred.”
Police teams, with support from the Special Task Force (STF), had earlier arrested nine accused, including a minor. The arrested persons were identified as Nikhil alias Lakhan of Biholi, Prince of Dahar, Vansh of Narayana, Sunil alias Gunda of Naultha, and Prince, Sumit, Ankit and Tinku of Dahar village. Five pistols and five cartridges were recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had carried out the attacks at the directions of Shilu Dahar to spread terror and extort money from businessmen.
SP Singh said, “Inspector Phool Kumar, Incharge, CIA-1 has been assigned to arrest the accused Shilu Dahar, but he was sitting abroad. Following the police action, Shilu was forced to come to India and he arrived at Delhi Airport in the wee hours today from Moscow. As he landed, the police team nabbed him at the airport.”
Police said 15 heinous criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, offences under the Arms Act and extortion, are registered against him.
After securing parole from jail in January last year, he allegedly travelled to Thailand in October 2025 and later moved to Azerbaijan and Moscow.
The accused was produced before a local court, which remanded him to three days of police custody.
