Girls in Classes IX-XII at Haryana government schools to get protein bar, fortified milk from next session

Girl students in Classes IX to XII in the government schools in the state will get fortified flavoured milk and protein milk bar from the next academic session in Haryana.

The Directorate of School Education has directed the District Education Officers in the state to send the verified demand by March 16 so that the eligible girl students could get fortified milk and protein bar under the ‘Mukhyamantri Dugdh Uphar Yojana’.

The directorate stated that the state government is launching the ‘yojana’ to provide complete nutrition to girl students studying in Classes IX to XII in the government schools in Haryana. Under this scheme, eligible girl students will be provided fortified flavoured milk for 75 days and protein milk bar for 75 days with distribution beginning in April. Therefore, based on the enrolment for the current 2025-26 academic session, the demand for April has been prepared.

The DEOs have been directed to verify the demand and send it by March 16 on priority.

As per an Education Department official, so far, children from Bal Vatikas to Class VIII are provided with protein milk bar chocolates and milk twice a week, and instant 'kheer' and 'pinni' once a week.

District Education Officer (DEO) Ambala Sudhir Kalra said, “As per the directions received, the government will start providing fortified flavoured milk powder and protein milk bar for girl students. So far, these used to be provided for students till Class VIII. For the first time, girl students from Classes IX to XII will be covered. The initiative will definitely help in enhancing the nutritional intake in the girl students.”
