As many as 87 high-resolution closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will keep a hawk’s eye on Gohana city round the clock. The Gohana Municipal Council (MC), in a joint project with the Police Department, has installed these cameras at 26 strategic locations on main roads and chowks to monitor criminal activity as well as traffic rule violations.

ADGP Mamta Singh, Commissioner of Police, Sonepat, inaugurated the CCTV control room set up at the Sadar Gohana police station. Gohana MC president Rajni Virmani, Gohana DCP Bharati Dabas and officials from the Municipal Council and Police Department were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, ADGP Mamta Singh said that the installation of CCTV cameras would make it easier for the police to identify and apprehend criminals. “The presence of cameras also creates fear among anti-social elements, which helps in effective crime control,” she said.

The ADGP added that ensuring the safety and security of residents was the top priority of both the police and the civic body. “These CCTV cameras will not only help in controlling crime but will also assist in improving traffic management and implementing the online challan system in the future,” she said.

DCP Bharati Dabas said the project had been planned in collaboration with the Gohana Municipal Council nearly two years ago to strengthen the safety and security of residents. Under the project, 26 strategic points, including entry and exit points on both internal and outer roads, were identified after a detailed survey.

A total of 87 high-resolution CCTV cameras equipped with night-vision capability have been installed at these locations, bringing every corner of the city under surveillance, DCP Dabas said. “This will make it easier for police teams to identify and apprehend miscreants who enter the city, commit crimes and flee. The cameras also have a good backup system,” she added.

The CCTV control room has been established at the centrally located Gohana Sadar police station, where trained police personnel will monitor the cameras round the clock.

“CCTV surveillance is the need of the hour as it plays a crucial role in crime detection,” the DCP said. She added that the cameras would also help reduce confrontations between police personnel and traffic rule violators during traffic checks. The online traffic challan system would be launched in the city soon, she asserted.
